Everyone goes to the beach for rest, relaxation and to have fun in the sun. However, you'd better make sure your fun doesn't encroach on the enjoyment of others or tempers can flare. Beach rage? Maybe not, but practicing a little simple etiquette can ensure everyone can have fun and not at the expense of others.
1. Beach games are fun, but try to ensure you select a wide open space to play them in. No one wants a frisbee in the face or sand kicked in their picnic. Most beaches are big enough to accommodate game playing and if not, then waiting later into the day until they clear out a little is a bonus.
2. Small children love the beach but it is wise to keep an eye on them to ensure they aren't playing too close and disturbing other beach-goers.
3. Use a beach blanket to mark out your section of the beach and don't plant yourself in someone else's lap when you do so. Marking your area prevents misunderstandings and protects your place in the sun.
4. By all means bring food etc. to the beach but take your litter away with you when you leave. Whilst your are there, ensure your wrappers aren't blowing all over the beach too and be especially cautious about glass etc. which can easily become buried in the sand and become a hazard to other beach users.
5. Pets may not be allowed on many beaches, at least until after most beach users have left for the day. Ensure you know the rules before you arrive and if you are allowed to bring your dog to the beach, ensure it is kept under control and you clean up any surprises it may leave in the sand. A wet dog shaking all over your neighbour just isn't right!
6. Got wet? Don't YOU shake it out all over your sunbathing neighbour either! Got sand in your beach blanket? Shake it AWAY from other beach users!
7. A beach umbrella is a great way to create a little shade but use them wisely. If it's windy then make darn sure its secured and if you're a late arriver, don't plant your umbrella in a place where it will block the sun for already established sunbathers.
Bottom line, be considerate and everyone can enjoy their day out!
